Squier Master Series Electric Guitars

More on the new Fender Squire models! These are surprisingly good and affordable!

The Squier family is growing with the introduction of its latest guitars, the Master Series. With a total of five different models–two of which have been designed, for the first time ever, by Fender Custom Shop Master Builders–the new Squier Master Series guitars are sleek variations of familiar Squier designs, but with a new style and modern features for today’s players.

Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

These look awesome! I missed these at NAMM… I don’t know how???

I saw Eric in Boulder last Wednesday. He played a white one during an encore……..

After years of continual consumer and retailer requests, Fender has announced the long-awaited Eric Johnson Signature Model Stratocaster guitar. The brainchild of Johnson himself, this new model is designed with Eric’s own personal features and preferences, and it is made possible because of his expressed desire to give something back to the collectors, players and, especially, the fans who have supported him throughout his career.

The Eric Johnson Signature Model Fender Stratocaster guitar is built from some of the finest materials available. The light 2-piece alder body is dressed in a very thin nitro cellulous lacquer finish, and the 1-piece quarter-sawn maple neck sports a 12 inch fingerboard radius, 21 highly polished frets, and a soft “V” neck profile.

Additional features include staggered vintage style machine heads, thus eliminating the need for a string tree, custom pickups with countersink screws and wound to Eric’s specifications, and highly contoured body and neck.

Scott Henderson Discussion :: View topic - Scott answers your questions - round 11 - new 1/28/05

Here’s the latest Scott Henderson Q&A! Here’s a quick sample!

hi! I live in Poland. my problem is that I study at Music School (now is the 9th year of my music education) in classic guitar class. Unfortunately they teach there Classic Music Only . I have theory , eartraining (which i think is the most useful ) piano , and all that stuff , but generally in classic music way only. it takes most of my time after highschool (4 days a week), so i wonder about leave it and just practice more jazz/fusion stuff on electric guitar only. (i want to be proffesional musician ) and there are no any Jazz school near me. what do you think ?

Quote:

Yes the best thing to do is give up all your studies in classical music and move to the fast paced, high income world of jazz fusion. Fusion players make even more money than yodelers! If you hate seeing girls in the audience, don’t worry you’ll never have to look at another one again if you become a pro fusion guy, and there’s no better way to work out than moving your own heavy equipment! Sometimes you even get to do it in front of the audience - I especially enjoy being watched while I’m winding cables.

Just kidding (sort of). I love my work and wouldn’t do anything else… but dude! Wouldn’t you rather get paid big bucks to be the guest soloist for those big orchestras, then put your guitar in the case and walk off with some babe wearing a formal?

Wonder What Happened to the Fender Robben Ford Model?

Ever wonder what ever happened to the Fender Robben Ford model. Low and behold it’s back as a Squire Esprit and it’s a pretty awesome guitar. I didn’t get pricing information but this is a quality instrument and has many of the features that Robben Ford developed with the Fender Custom Shop. It’s chambered and has the Robben neck joint - see photos below!

Mad Professor Amps

Made in Sweden by Bjorn Juhl, here’s another amp that caught my attention. It’s a one channel amp coming from the Marshall Plexi pedigree but with an amazing range of tones based on some very unique eq controls. You can change where the mids are boosted via a 5 way toggle which dramatically changes the amp’s voiceing. I couldn’t believe the versatility and variety of tones coming out of a one channel amp. We’re talking clean and overdriven. These are retailing for $6K! One of the best discoveries at the show!

65Amps - One of the amps I really liked at NAMM!

65Amps

Peter Stroud demoed these 65’s for me personally. What a great guy and a terminal tone freak! These are kind of like the Divided By 13 vibe. It does the Marshall Plexi/ Vox AC3o thang. Very chimy and the notes hold togther amazingly well when the amp is pushed into the crunch zones. At high gain levels the amp goes into a kind of Fuzz Face like tone. I thougt this was one of the best new amps at the show! I feel the G.A.S. coming!

NAMM 2005

I had an unbelievable NAMM 2005. Had the pleasure of hanging out with the 3 Scott’s - Scott Lerner, Scott Jones and Scott Henderson.

So here are the music highlights and I will dig in with more detail and into the NAMM gear in future posts over the next few days.

Thursday night it was Guthrie Govan at Tone Merchants.

Friday night it was Dave Weckl Band in Hollywood.

Saturday afternoon was lunch with Scott Henderson.

Saturday night was Mike Landau at the Baked potato.

Sunday Night it was Scott Henderson followed by Joel Hoekstra at Tone Merchants.

Mind-blowing!! I have been reborn! It’s going to take a couple of day for all this to sink in. I will debrief here on my blog over the next few days so stay tuned.

But in the mean time here are all my photos from NAMM unedited.
