Future of Music

music industry, music business, and free music downloads - Future of Music
Chapter One of “Future of Music” book now online

“It is the year 2015 and you wake to a familiar tune playing softly. It gets you out of bed and makes you feel good. As you walk into the bathroom, your Personal Media Minder activates the video display in the mirror, and you watch a bit of personalized news while you get ready for the day. You step into the shower and your personalized music program is ready for you, cued up with a new live version of a track that you downloaded the other day. It is even better than the original recording, so while you dress, you tell your TasteMate program to include the new track in your playlist rotation.

You put on your new eyeglasses, which contain a networked audioheadset, letting tiny earbuds slip into your ears. You switch on the power, and the mix that your friend made for you starts to play. Music pours into your consciousness. It becomes yours.”

And now a gear update from the makers of Tone Tubbies!

Tone Tubby Discussion :: View topic - What’s new at Broun Sound?

Well we’re busy. John is working on 15’s for all applications and also on a good 8″ for guitar and near field monitors. All of course with the Hempcone. We are back ordered right now 3-4 weeks on all Tone Tubbies currently in production. We’re glad to welcome Ampeg/Crate aboard and the V30 and V50 sound awesome with our Ceramic 12″ Tone Tubby.

We have some clips up at:
http://www.tonetubby.com/sample12cer.htm
Clips Here!

We continue to offer speaker repair and reconing here at A Brown. Still going strong in the SF Bay area since 1974.

We would like to thank all the guitar players big and bigger for the tremendous response we’ve received the last couple of years. Thanks also to all involved in helping to make the Tone Tubby a success.

Cheers, Charlie

AXL ThinAmp Review

Just found a review of this cool little amp.

AXL ThinAmp Review

At the recent 2005 NAMM Expo, AXL Musicwas displaying a unique portable amp, the ThinAmp. It’s only 2″ thick, and weighs just five pounds, yet it packs 10 Watts of power, 18 built-in DSP effects, a three-band EQ, and twin speakers. It’s so unique, that it is helping to create a new class of amp.

There are thousands of amps available for musicians to choose from, so it takes something unique to make one stand out. The ThinAmp does just that, by combining a powerful set of effects with one of the most portable amps ever designed.
Comparing it to other amps is difficult. It doesn’t have the body or volume of a full-size amp, or even many portable amps. It’s digital effects are useful, but are not state-of-the-art. But try and fit any other amp in a laptop bag, and you’ll see that the ThinAmp offers its own unique benefits.

Parking in Bitterman Circle
Parking In Bitterman Circle Podcast #14- Couch SurfingHere’s the latest podcast from Philadelphia, PA, especially for you.
It’s time to share the glamour of the road, travel and checking in
early because the bus can’t stay….

Aron,

Just a quick note to say I’m really enjoying your podcast! I was also in Boston playing music in the early 80’s! I am also a huge Lowell George fan… certainly don’t hear any of that on mainstream radio these days. ;-)

Since you dig Lowell , Doyle and Susan T., check out one of my tunes:

We Gotta Go

Please keep the Podcast’s coming! Highly Recomended!

The FlipTone Amplifier

Music Thing: The FlipTone Amplifier - Engadget - www.engadget.com.

Musicians are, as I’ve said before, a very traditional breed. Even digital synths often emulate designs that are 40 years old. So it will be interesting to see how acoustic guitar players take to the FlipTone amplifier. The specs are unremarkable - a 25 watt amp with a few digital effects, EQ, various inputs and outputs and laptop-style rechargable batteries for $600. But the form factor is amazing - a A4-sized brushed aluminium briefcase with a flat panel speaker forming the lid. Guitar amps have never looked like this before, although it’s not the first amp to use flat-panel speakers. The ThinAmp is a much cheaper, plastic-cased version which came out last year.

New Scott Henderson Q&A - Check it out!

Scott answers your questions round 15 - 5/9/05.

Here’s an excerpt - classic SCOTT! ;-)
——————–
2) I saw a photo…you with John McLaughlin. So I wonder if you ever had any kind of experience with one of the monsters guitarists?(John Scofield or Pat Metheny). Do you get something from that sort of relations?

Scott:
I’ve only met Scofield twice and I’ve never met Metheny, but I’m sure I’d like him because we both have a healthy hatred of Kenny G.

3)Did you have benefits from being great guitar player, I mean having sex with gorgeous girl (like pornstar or strip dancer)

Scott:
Oh yeah, porn stars and Penthouse models love jazz fusion and they’re always waiting to rape me as soon as I get off stage. But I’m 50 now and sometimes I’m too tired.

Adam Curry gets Sirius - Podcasts - podcasts.engadget.com /

We’ve been huge fans of this concept of podcasting. Adam Curry is leading the charge.

This is very important because Podcasting represents a whole new distribution platform for music promotion and personal content. It’s a continuation of the macro trend of media fragmentation that has been going on for the past 4 decades.

Check this out!!
