Every time I listen to Jimmy the guy just blows me away!
The first I saw Jimmy live was with ABB in 2000 around July 4 at Red Rocks in Colorado.
Ok I had not seen the ABB since 1973 with Dickey, Greg, Chuck, Lamar, J Johnny and Butch. This was my first time seeing the band in like 17 years. I had heard Dickey Betts had just been fired from the band so Jimmy Herring would be playing with Derek Trucks on guitars. So I didn't know what to expect.
Got there early and got 11th row center seats.
Totally blow away! The band was on fire and Derek and Jimmy were so on and in sync! The energy was like better than 1973!
Greg was like reborn! Derek was the second coming of Duane and Jimmy....well Jimmy was at a whole new level that I had never seen before or expected!
I was blown away and have been a huge fan and student every since.
But where can you go on the web and talk about one of the best guitarists of our generation? No where..... UNTIL NOW!
Here we are and hopefully we will have Jimmy join us here shortly! I am working on it!
But until then........
Let the discussions begin!
Kirk out!

Wow my thoughts exactly....I was turned on to Jimmys playing by someone who met him while fishing of course...
My acquaintance was standing in mud up to his ankles
and chatting with this person for hours
then suddenly there is someone yelling for Jimmy..
Herring politely shakes my friends hand and says i gotta go
why dont you come on up to the house I have to reherse....
uh the guy goes up and Jimmy muddy feet and all
straps up and starts wailing with the band
the band aquarium rescue unit.....my buddy
said he was completly plowed by this band and by
his new found fishing bud with muddy feet that plays
like an earth angel...
Oddly for me Jimmy is an earth angel his music saved my life
during a divroce over the past years and its healing to hear
so Jimmy Herring where ever you are godbless you for the music you play
ive not yet been able to see you live but if you get to Texas anytime soon Ill be the guy they are putting back together in the first row.
Im hooked on Jimmy Herrings music and whole phrasing and tone
holy cow what a player... _________________ Jimmy herring saved my life
during my divorce I want to make him
a guitar please tell him that godbless |

Hey! I just discovered this forum. I used to have an Aquarium Rescue Unit CD, with Jimmy Herring on it. It was great!
I haven't really heard much else by him, except for a couple of T.V. concerts, and that live Gov't. Mule CD.
I really would like to know more about this guy, and hear more of his playing.
What would be the 1 CD I should get, as an appropriate introduction? Studio, or live? Is there a new one? I'm hoping you guys can help! |

wow. That is one tough question.
I think I would go with any Frogwings stuff you can find. It's a good intro as far as studio stuff. Otherwise I would thik about downloading any Codetalkers or Phil and Friends show with Jimmy on guitar. You can go to:
http://www.archive.org and just search Jimmy's name. A ton of stuff will come up _________________

Okay, I downloaded a Codetalkers video from internet archive. However, I can't get it to play. My computer says, it was created with an unknown program. Can I play it on Windows Media Player? |

it is most likely flac files. I started using wxMusik player. it is an open-source, cross platform music player with a decent library. it can be downloaded here: http://musik.berlios.de/ |
