I'm from Raleigh, NC and am a huge fan of the Allman Bros. I've been playing guitar for over 9 years and am currently trying to learn some jazz and I definitely am trying to get some Herring-like chops, though it's gonna take a whole lot of work.
I caught Jimmy for the first time this summer at my first Dead show. I was blown away. Hope to see more of him in the future. _________________ "There's a lot of different forms of communication, but music is absolutely the purest one, man.

welcome! ive been playing guitar for 6 years and playing jazz for about 2 years.....ive pretty much gotten down those lightning fast runs jimmy does one step up or down of the actual scale(sounds pretty cool when you play it fast) although i havent gotten my speed playing to where i would like it(205 bpm)still working on that "shuffle picking idea" although im sweeping because i find it easier. im continuously working on my chops along with some jazz standards.....learning birdland right now....its pretty hard but nothing some practice wont take care of. once again welcome...and if you got any theory or tech questions this is the place to ask! |

I've heard about his "shuffle picking" but not all that familiar with it. I do know what ya mean by the runs that are a step up and down. I was working on Confirmation, another Charlie Parker tune which you prob already know, such great melody. I need to pick that back up. Thanks for the greeting. _________________ "There's a lot of different forms of communication, but music is absolutely the purest one, man.

I grew up in the mountains myself and then moved to go to school in Raleigh. Just graduated and accepted a job in Richmond, VA so i'll be moving on in a few weeks. _________________ "There's a lot of different forms of communication, but music is absolutely the purest one, man.

I lived in Richmond for a while.
Good town. Great food!!!
The upper Fan has some of the best restaurants/bars...character, good menus, nice folks.
Should be some good music getting that way soon, too. From what I know there are at least two nice new clubs opening up. One on West Broad and another by the canal.
There is a yahoogroup that is called RichmondHeads...look it up. Not too active but some good traders/tapirs on there.
Richmond is a cool town, enjoy. _________________ adios-

Thanks for the reply about Richmond. I'll check out the group. I caught Oteil at a small jazz venue called Fusion. Only around 100 people were there, very tiny venue, but very intimate. Great show. I'm looking forward to learning more about the area. _________________ "There's a lot of different forms of communication, but music is absolutely the purest one, man.
