Scott,
I was just sitting around listening to my vinyl copy of Players and I wanted to ask you a couple of things about it, even though it was a long time ago. How did the whole project come together with half the album being studio and half live. Did you guys play many live shows or just a one off? Knowing that you have since played with both Jeff and Steve, what can you tell us about the late T Lavitz. I saw him with the Dregs a couple of times and they seemed to be a very competitive band. Finally, were you happy with your playing and tone on the project because I have seen you mention in passing about liking things about that project. (BTW the original vinyl sound is GREAT!)
T booked a gig at a club in LA, and when we got there we saw that he'd hired a mobile recording truck. I was like, you're kidding, right? We hadn't played the music very much but we recorded anyway. We could only use some of the tunes, so we had to go into the studio to record the tunes which we couldn't use from the gig.
T was a really funny guy, a lot of fun to work with, but he wasn't much of an improvisor. His strong point was ensemble playing - I thought he sounded great with the Dregs.
Was I happy with my playing and tone after the album? You'd have to go back in time and ask me in 1987. I'm not happy with it now, that's for sure.
