Just wanted to share a cool thing I wouldn't have thought if I hadn't transcribed the Big Wave solo.
It may sound silly, cause we all know that we need to know the fretboard horizontally as well as vertically. But there is more to it.

There are some sweet spots on the neck that sort of transcend the barriers of the five pattern pentatonic shapes.
So, when super imposing pentatonics over any chords these sweet spots are very comfortable to play, plus they sound more interesting cause they are not as overused by everyone (I think).

Also, working on sliding up or down with an unusual choice of finger (semitone or tone) unlocks these hidden "in between" positions especially in tunes with modal changes.

That, I guess, is what Scott said about jumping from an area of the neck to another. Well, he definitely jumps in a wider range of frets too, but I personally found that the small jumps do the hard work considering the note choices. For what I have discovered so far.. Don't know, just wanted to share cause I found it very helpful.

Here is a link to the video I made. I hope it is okay to post it, it definitely does not aim to promote myself as I am not a professional guitarist and I make very little money just as a sideman. It is about my interest in Scott's playing and I hope it helps some people as much as it has helped me.
