Yes!!! My new Suhr just arrived!! It's here! it's... MINE!!!! Shocked

I was not able to plug it yet as I'm at work so I can only comment on the look... well... This think is just insane!! The 1-piec burl maple top is awesome as well as the cocobolo neck!

I could not expect more in terms of look...

It's also very heavy! but I wanted a guitar with a bit more mass, so I'm happy... the carve top Suhr is so well balance, very nice and beautiful!

Rehearsal tonight... it will be the ultimate test!!

I chose the 1.65 nut on this one vs. 1.68 on my other modern... well it makes quite a bit difference in feel!!! I don't know yet which one is my favorite Wink have to test it bit more...

I will post pics very soon, I want to do some nice ones to do this piece of art justice!!! Cool

Thanks a lot to Matt from Matt's Music for his help and patience with my stupid questions Wink

Ooooooo

The combination of what looks like flame on the lower horn and body with burl is lovely.

And the backside of that neck. Seriously.

That is beautiful Shocked

Thanks for the nice comments Smile I really love it too !!

As for the sound here is a little comparison vs my black limba modern:

Globally, the black limba is much brighter!! With a clear focus in the mid-highs, with clear and tight lows. The carve top is much fatter, with booming but still clear lows. The high end is smoother too. I don't know if this is due to the mahogany body, the cocobolo neck or the added weight (or all 3). Maybe also the fact that the aldrich are covered.

The results is that the carve top seems to have a little less gain vs the modern.

The volume on the carve top is higher too... the lows have a piano like sound, that is great especially in clean sounds... for leads the smoother highs are very nice, less aggressive.

However, the black limba is a modern metal monster!! very clear palm mute, super tight lows!!! and really cut through the mix (a tad better than the carve top).

The frequency spectrum of the black limba makes the guitar really sound like a super start, and the 2nd and 4th positions are awesome! The carve top I would say, remains me more the sound of my PRS... between a strat and a Les Paul... fatter, smoother with a rounder sound!

Both are really nice and complementary. That's really the proof that wood makes a HUGE difference!! Wink

By the way the only other difference is the nut width. Black limba 1.68, carve top 1.65... well the difference is VERY noticeable!!!

With the same neck profile (0.78 modern elliptical), the 1.68 feels flatter on the back, much more modern while the 1.65 seems rounder. I have a slight preference for the 1.68 nut, but maybe I'm used to it for quite some time now!! Smile

I will also post a sound clip of the limba during our last gig... let me know what you think! Smile
