I need some Information about the CAE 3+ Preamp. So here in Germany it's very hard to find one and I've found such a preamp in Denmark. It's a CAE 3+ from the first edition and I have already contacted Bob Bradshaw to explain the difference between the 3+ and the 3+SE. Here is his answer:
I would prefer the SE, but of course that is a subjective opinion.
In a nutshell, as compared to the original 3+, the SE revision gives
ch.2 less gain, and more midrange,
making it a true "bridge" between the "clean" ch 1 and the
Ch.3 has more gain, better low midrange and a sweeter high end response,
and the switchable EQ becomes more like treble and bass, rather than
"presence" and bass, and this also eliminates the slight midrange dip
in the original's EQ stage when the eq controls are set
"flat" (around 12 o'clock).
Early SE's had a "hot" CH1.1, but most have original "clean" CH1.
CH 2 has less gain
CH 3 has more gain, tighter low mids, smoother highs
Original EQ WAS "presence" and bass
SE EQ is "treble" and bass, which also made the EQ more "flat" when
controls are at mid point.
So, I'm looking for a Lukather Sound and I know he uses the 3+SE Version. Is it possible to mod the old Version to the SE version? Are there any other mods which should be done (crosstalk mod, tranny mod)? Are there some "How to do" sheets (I'm a graduate engineer in electronics and can do this by myself)?
Thanks for your support, and sorry for my broken english !
