Okay, as suhr players its obvious you guys are all serious guitarists. But how about compiling a list of guitar players (regardless of style) that we should all know about. I think I can edit this post so if people put who they think we should all listen to then I will try and add them into this post.
Ill start then.

Shawn Lane - Fusion - One of my all time favourite players. THE king of speed. Advanced yet melodic and tasteful soloing, you guys really should know this one.

George Bellas - Neo-Classical/Progressive - Probably not that well-known to some of you. True neo-classical/progressive player, the king of economy picking. Complex arrangments and compositions.

Eric Johnson - BluesFusion - Probably a more popular one here. Great blend of blues jazz and rock. Fantastic player and tone.

Jason Becker - Neoclassical - Another of my all time favourites. King of sweep picking, inspirational story. He was a great player but hismodern compositions are even better, listen to the full version of End Of The Begginning.

No disrespect to Jason Becker but the MASTER of sweeping is Frank Gambale.
A player to check out for FRIGHTENING technique is Marshall Harrison. He attended GIT and had private instruction from Brett Garsed. His right hand technique is mindboggling a combination of Gambale and Garsed ( sweep picking, economy picking, finger picking, legato) with speed like Lane. He is also an accomplished pianist and incorporates that into his playing. He uses 7 strings and extended range guitars as well as 6 strings. There are quite a few videos of him on you tube. Several piano pieces arranged for guitar as well. More complicated pieces than most guitarists ive seen.

Definitely check out the video of Marshall jamming at Derryl Gabels. Insane. Only 24 years old at the time I believe.[uhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ni44LcJX4rl][/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ni44LcJX4][http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ni44LcJX4][/urhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ni44LcJX4l]

Hey Stugots, Gambale pretty much invented modern sweep picking but ive never really heard him sweep the way Becker does, or did. Gambale is more the economypicking type? But either way, we should all of have heard of Gambale.

Also, all you guys need to givereasons lol, its no good just putting a random name haha.

Freedom - I agree about Mike Keneally. I read somewhere that Vai siad the only two people he were firghtened to jam with were Keneally and Zappa, as both, e admitted, could show him up.

These two are poles apart musically but they both use great grooves when playing with their bands and each truly has their own sound.
