Hi John, Are there any plans on making a 7 stringed modern?

I just talked to John last week about it and he said that he hopes to have some prototypes available for the winter NAMM Jan 2010. I know this will take out a huge chunk of the market as the Modern's are flying out the door. - doug gentry Wink

Doug, don't suppose your conversation touched upon the subject of the set-neck...?

That subject goes without saying. I will tell you this I have been saving for years to buy a set neck guitar.I have seen some beautiful Nik Huber's. I have been tempted by Don Grosh and many other builders but if it takes John another year or five years I will remain loyal to the suhr brand. Not only because of the fit, finish, and playability. But because I believe in their vision and find every member of the team to be a friend.
John did hint that he would try to have both the 7 string and the set neck @ this years winter NAMM but I know he has a lot going ampwise as well so I would realistically expect the 7 string to make an appearance and more than likely a new amp or two along the way.- Sir Douglas T

thats good news doug, 7 strings can make the modern a more versatile guitar, not only the headbangers will like this but also jazz players...

Can't wait to see the Modern 7 and set-neck... it's great they are taking the time to get them right.... it's just a pain in the arse waiting for them !

Thanks for the link, missed that!

The fanned fret sounds really interesting.. I'd spec it on my Modern 7 if it was available as an option.

25.5" does not work great with a seven string, but I think 27" would be tough on bending with the increased tension. So a fanned option would be the best of both worlds.
