Dear colleagues,

This is my first post, but one with great feeling behind it. For I am now the proud owner of a brand new swamp ash body/maple neck Suhr J Bass. And it is profoundly awesome.

First, an image:

My friend has had some fifteen Suhr guitars, all of which I have played, and all of which I have loved. When I finally became doubtful of my trusty Tobias 5 string, tired of it's somewhat dull midrange-y presence, I remembered that Suhr made a line of basses. I live in Washington DC, a city of three million people (2.4 million lobbyists) and there are no Suhr basses to be found. I gazed upon the above image on a music store website. Sight unseen, I laid down a credit card.

Not only is it the most solid instrument I have ever owned, it is one that inspires me to get in the studio. Killer playability, Marcus Miller inspired spunky tone. Gorgeous woods. Wonderfully balanced preamp. Inspired playing. And it's only been a week.

I have been playing a zillion basses in guitar stores hoping for a spark of inspiration. I have never purchased an instrument on blind faith and jpegs alone. Here, the faith was rewarded with glorious, glorious tone.

What a beautiful world.

I forget who the friend was, but remember that he was incredibly sexy. And he had some slammin' tone. That is all.

A picture is worth a thousand words, except when talking about spanky swamp ash and maple fingerboard tone. Then, you need an mp3 more than a jpeg: http://bit.ly/dx1Oiz.

Gear used to make this recording:

Suhr J -> Apogee Duet -> Logic 9 -> onboard processing -> bounce to mp3
