I've got this weird urge for a low-impedance guitar.

Already have a pickguard I can use (Its a Classic), but I'm toying with the idea of a set of EMG's, probably SA-x,SA-x,89x (or doing the Knopfler mod and an 85).

Anyone with any experience with the X-series (to try to talk me out of it - LOL) would be appreciated. Not looking for anything hot - just a good neck pickup sound and combo positions.

Can't help it - I lusted after EMG's in the mid to late '80s.

I think with my wants I would want to rewire with a 4 pole switch, which is kind of a downside as I like the simplicity of the install with the solderless kits. I'd want to do auto-split (or Knopfler mod) on the bridge/middle. I can do that.

The question is how to deal with the shielding - My other Suhr I think has a few tricks - just hums like crazy with the pickguard partially unscrewed, but quiet as a church mouse when everything is screwed down. My concerns are doing things to Suhr spec and not losing any highs. EMG one time recommended I not shield one install I did - It was extremely quiet.

Thanks in advance.

If it's gotta be EMG's, then I'd go with the 85 and use John's M.K. mod. But John suggested that the Seymour Duncan Blackouts might be just as good or better ....

I know it's not an S-S-H, but just listen to Mark Day's clips. If it's 80's you're looking for, he's got it in spades !

Thanks, but Ireese provided me a shematic wiring diagramm already! Very Happy

It seems to be quite simple to do and I am going to try it out as soon as I get my .033 uF capacitor and 22 Khm resistor.........a rather difficult story to order them here in Switzerland! Rolling Eyes

Hallo!
I was reading this old thread.
About the "knopfler" mod.
Does anyone have the schematics for this "knopfler" mod?
I'm building a Pensa Suhr mk1 replica and I can't find the schematics for:
EMG 85/sa/sa + spc booster with push/pull.
I'd be happy for any tip or help on this matter.
Take care.
Best regards/
Thomas from Sweden

Hello Thomas

Unfortunately I could not find the schematics anymore, but it's quite simple to do:

It's a 22K resistor (carbon film) and an .033nf capacitor wired in series between the lugs of the middle (SA) and the bridge (85) pickup. You need a super switch with 4 poles to do this!

It tames the volume and bass of the 85 humbucker to get a closer singlecoil sound ("quack").

If you need schematics just ask BRUNO in the www.hugeracksinc.com/forum.
He provided me the schematic!

Good luck!
Best regards

Thank you for all the help.
I've tried to reach HUGO for several days.
And you have to be a member to do that.
When I'm trying to register it says:
Creating a new account is currently not possible.
I have to try to find another way to get this schematic.
But how?
Best regards/
Thomas

Last I heard, he ran a CAE3+ user group on facebook.

The CAE3+ is also something else I'd like to try! Wink

I'd ask John Suhr himself with a personal message here in this forum! He is always very helpful, such a nice guy.

Cool
